The plot fairly cracks along with a mixture of comic set pieces and spectacular FX. Plus a host of lively characters, including Wishy Washy and Jeanie In A Bottle. And a great song list!
Aladdin is tricked by wheeler-dealer/magician Abanazar into retrieving the magic lamp from a cave in the hills. The lamp enables him to pay court to Princess Ting-Ling, but Abanazar gets it back and usurps the throne of China.
However a combination of luck and youthful ingenuity restores the status quo and all ends happily.

In Shang-lo, China, Aladdin lives with his mum Widow Twankey who is the ‘Royal Laundress by Appointment’. One day he sees the Princess Ting-Ling in the street and at once resolves to marry her. He takes laundry to the Imperial Palace and meets the Princess but is caught by guards and brought before the Empress. He declares his love for the Princess but is alarmed to discover that if he wants to marry her he needs the MFR, Minimum Financial Requirement, of two million yuan.
Widow Twankey is visited by Abanazar claiming to be her long-lost brother-in-law and offering her money for Aladdin’s services. He wants Aladdin to help him recover a lamp “of sentimental value” from a cave in the hills. They agree and next morning Aladdin and Abanazar approach the cave. Aladdin clambers in and finds the lamp on a ledge but when he demands to know what the lamp really is, Abanazar loses his temper and rolls a boulder over the cave entrance shutting him in. Inside the cave Aladdin helped by the Sprites rubs the lamp, releasing the (female) genie, Jeanie in a Bottle.
Back at the laundromat Aladdin is excited at the prospect of marrying the Princess. Abanazar tricks Nitty Poo into handing over the lamp and heads for the Palace. There he demands that the Empress abdicate in favour of himself and that Princess Ting-Ling marries him. When the Empress refuses, he demonstrates the power of the Genie, usurps the throne and transports the palace and everyone in it to darkest Africa. By a subterfuge Ting-Ling and Aladdin retrieve the lamp, and the status quo is restored. Abanazar is suitable punished, and all ends happily with a double marriage. Widow Twankey marries Wishy Washy and of course Aladdin marries Ting-Ling.
